Imran Khan, founder of the PTI, will not be participating in the race for the chancellorship of Oxford University. The university has published a list of 38 eligible candidates, and Khan’s name is notably absent.
The administration announced that this election marks the first time open applications were accepted, with the chancellor election committee evaluating all submissions according to established regulations.
Voting for the first round is scheduled for October 28, during which voters will select their preferences. The top five candidates will advance to the second round.
This election follows the retirement announcement of Lord Patten of Barnes, and for the first time, it will incorporate online popularity in the selection process. Former students have been invited to rank the candidates, which include notable figures like Lord William Hague, Lord Peter Mandelson, Lady Elish Angiolini, and Dr. Margaret.
Although Imran Khan had previously submitted his nomination for the chancellorship, his application will not be considered in this election. PTI leader Zulfikar Bukhari had shared on X, “As per Imran Khan’s instructions, his application form to Oxford University Chancellor Election 2024 has been submitted. We look forward to everyone’s support for a historic campaign.”
Khan, a former cricket star, previously held the chancellorship of the University of Bradford from 2005 to 2014.
